Flood Protection

Flood control projects using ShoreGuard synthetic sheet piling have been in service for over 2 decades. ShoreGuard sheet piling is commonly used in projects designed to stabilize and raise the height of levees and earthen dams. ShoreGuard can help to prevent overtopping, internal seepage, piping of stratum, surface erosion and rodent damage. ShoreGuard is also used for cantilevered flood walls in levee repair projects. In fact, ShoreGuard sheet piling protects some of the nation's most valuable assets including international airports and some of the largest refineries in the world.

It is not uncommon for flood wall and levee repair projects using ShoreGuard to be completed for half the cost of projects using conventional materials such as steel and slurry. The significance of this cost savings cannot be over-emphasized as the nation faces the challenge of funding the repair and upgrading of thousands of miles of levees and earthen dams which do not meet current FEMA standards or traditional 100 year flood design criteria. Considering the magnitude of the situation, flood control projects using ShoreGuard sheet piling could result in saving millions and possibly billions of dollars for municipal, state and federal governments.

ShoreGuard synthetic sheet piling has been exhaustively tested and used by the US Army Corps of Engineers for over 15 years. The performance is proven. When compared to steel or slurry, ShoreGuard is sustainable, has a low carbon footprint, can provide better performance, much better corrosion and chemical resistance, and naturally will reduce the environmental impact of a project. In addition to all of these advantages, ShoreGuard provides substantial cost savings compared to most conventional materials.

CMI's UltraComposite sheet piling is also used in flood control and levee repair applications and has been used in designs to replace steel sheet piling such as PZ-27. UltraComposite sheet piling profiles are the widest and strongest synthetic sheets produced in the world and can provide many of the same benefits of ShoreGuard.
