  Mandrel
 
 

A mandrel can be very effective in applications where a light weight sheet pile must be driven very deep into the soil.  Basically, the mandrel is a section of heavy steel designed to fit the light weight sheet piling being installed.  The steel and light weight sheet are driven together, then the light weight sheet is ejected and stays in place while the steel is removed and used again for the next drive.
